Hensting Alpacas
Hensting Alpacas began back in 2009 on Hensting Lane, when founder Derek Moore started with just a few alpacas and a passion for sharing them with others. As the herd and popularity grew, the farm expanded to Kiln Lane, before proudly moving to its new home in Itchen Valley Country Park in January 2025.
Today, Hensting Alpacas is home to a friendly herd of alpacas and llamas, including a few newly born crias this year, all enjoying life in their spacious paddocks surrounded by woodland and open countryside.
Hensting Alpacas continues to welcome visitors to feel their soft fleece, hear them hum, and enjoy up-close time with the herd on their popular alpaca walking experiences. Each session lasts around 90–120 minutes and includes meeting, haltering, walking, and feeding the alpacas through beautiful countryside.
There is no minimum age to take part — children simply need to be able to walk around one mile or be carried safely in a baby carrier. Please note that pushchairs and walking frames are not suitable for the countryside terrain.
For something truly special, guests can also join the Llama Keeper Experience, spending a morning helping to feed, care for, and walk Piper the llama.
